In the November 2023 issue of Modern Gardens, I share the story of a garden transformation in Lydgate. Perched on the side of the Pennine Hills, Mike and Rachel's exposed plot presented unique challenges—a vast tarmac drive and a sparse courtyard offered little inspiration.
The brief? To create a modern, family-friendly garden that embraced breathtaking views and could endure the region’s often wild winters. Through the use of tough materials and resilient planting, the space was reimagined into a sheltered oasis, proving that even the most demanding landscapes can become something extraordinary.
