The Brief

This project involved a full redesign of both the front and rear gardens for a contemporary home whose interior had already been modernised. The existing gardens, however, were firmly stuck in a 1980s style and no longer reflected the aesthetic of the house.

The clients wanted outdoor spaces that felt modern, functional, and welcoming, with a clear connection to the home.

 

Key challenges included:

 

• A large, underused front garden

• A steep, poorly maintained lawn

• An awkwardly positioned path

• A rear garden dominated by parked cars due to a rear garage

 

The brief was to create spaces that balanced practicality with contemporary style and maximised usability.

The Design

The design focused on clean lines, contemporary materials, and functional zones, ensuring the rear garden became a usable and stylish extension of the home.

​

The front garden was completely regraded to create a practical parking area while maintaining visual appeal. Careful planning of levels and surfaces ensured the space could accommodate vehicles without compromising on style. The path to the front door was repositioned to create a more welcoming entrance, improving both access and kerb appeal.

At the rear, the garage was rendered to unify it with the house, and bi-fold doors were installed to create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living. A new decked area was added directly outside the house, which acts as a transitional space that links the interior to the redesigned garden and den.

The Garden

The transformation created a balanced, modern outdoor environment. The front garden now combines practical parking with a visually appealing layout, while the rear garden offers a comfortable social space and direct access from the house.

 

The deck connects naturally to planting and lawn areas, providing zones for entertaining, relaxing, and daily use.

 

Every element was selected to reflect the contemporary style of the home while enhancing functionality, turning previously underused spaces into cohesive, beautiful gardens.
