The Brief

This project in Oldham focused on transforming a substantial but underused greenhouse into a functional and inviting winter garden.

 

The clients wanted a cosy, year-round retreat that could serve as an extension of their home, a warm and relaxing space they can enjoy in the colder months.

The Design

The design focused on making the greenhouse feel spacious, functional, and intimately connected to the surrounding garden.

​

The key design move was removing a mid-section partition glass panel, which allowed the full depth of the greenhouse to be utilised. This opened up the layout and created space for a small terrace with a table and chairs, providing a comfortable area for dining or relaxing.

Existing heating pipes were cleverly incorporated to support a selection of exotic plants, bringing colour, texture, and life to the space throughout the winter.

The Garden

The transformed greenhouse now functions as a tranquil winter retreat, filled with lush, exotic planting and natural light. It offers a perfect spot to enjoy an evening with a book, a glass of wine, or simply a quiet moment away from the main house. Despite the relatively small footprint, the space feels generous, inviting, and thoughtfully designed.
