DIDSBURY

The Brief

For this Didsbury project, the clients wanted a complete transformation of their front garden, one that embraced contemporary design while remaining sensitive to the timeless elegance of their Victorian home.

The brief was to create a striking, welcoming entrance that felt both modern and reflective of the property’s historic character. In addition to the front garden redesign, the clients also asked for a detailed planting plan for the existing rear gardens for cohesion across the entire outdoor space.

The Design

To fulfil the brief, we carefully balanced crisp, contemporary elements with materials and details that nod to Victorian craftsmanship:

  • A new resin-bonded driveway forms the backbone of the layout, chosen for its clean appearance and durability.

  • Inset cobble details add texture and visual interest, echo the heritage of the property, tying old and new together.

  • A bespoke Corten steel screen introduces a sculptural, modern touch while providing subtle privacy and structure.

  • A traditional tiled pathway, selected for its classic geometry and ability to harmonise with the home’s façade.

Every material was chosen to respect the architectural character of the property while elevating the overall aesthetic.

The Garden

To ensure continuity between front and back, we developed a comprehensive planting plan for the rear gardens. This brought the entire exterior into harmony, unifying the property with a cohesive palette of textures, colours, and seasonal interest.

Over the coming year, as the planting matures and fills out, the garden will continue to grow into its full potential, becoming an even more refined and characterful extension of the home.
