BRAMHALL
The Brief
When Fay and Graham came to us with their property in Bramhall, Stockport, their garden felt tired, unloved and lacking purpose. They envisioned something entirely different: a garden that felt engaging at every turn, practical for family life, beautiful to look at, and carefully planned to offer structure, interest and a sense of adventure.
They wanted a space that could evolve with their family but also serve as a welcoming venue for gatherings with friends, weekend meals outdoors and day-to-day enjoyment.
The Design
To bring their vision to life, we developed a layout that centred on movement, discovery and family connection.
A thoughtfully designed pergola and generous dining area form the architectural anchor of the garden, establishing an inviting space for socialising and outdoor meals. From this key entertaining zone, a clear central vista was created to draw the eye across the garden and enhance the feeling of openness.
Along this axis, a series of raised beds add structure and rhythm. These beds were designed not only for planting, but also for functionality—they include comfortable inset seating for relaxed moments and casual conversation. Sculptural gabion baskets were added to bring texture and form, doubling as playful screens that subtly conceal a secret children’s play area tucked just out of sight.
We prioritised planting that would make the garden both productive and multisensory. The raised beds were filled with edibles like fragrant herbs and lush soft fruit to make sure the space is as practical as it is beautiful.
The Garden
The completed garden is an adventurous, interactive landscape that blends utility, creativity and aesthetic charm, tailored uniquely to the needs of a modern family.
The pergola and dining terrace provide a focal point for entertaining, creating a sheltered spot for long summer evenings and weekend meals. The central lawn introduces softness and openness, ideal for play, picnics or simply enjoying sunlight.
The raised beds bring structure and productivity, offering a delightful mix of scents, colours and flavours that change through the seasons. Their integrated seating creates natural gathering points, adding comfort and sociability to the space. Meanwhile, the sculptural gabion baskets add a rugged, contemporary touch—while cleverly concealing a magical, child-friendly play zone that gives the garden a sense of discovery.
Overall, the garden now feels welcoming, imaginative and full of character, providing Faye and Graham with an outdoor space that reflects their family life.
The Testimonial
“David has recently offered a full garden design service. He has been fantastic to work for and has incorporated all our ideas. His scope of service is great and he ensures the landscape team that will eventually carry out the work are of the highest quality. We had a number of quotes but David’s designs were second to none and really worth the money. I can highly recommend David.” — Fay and Graham
