The Brief

For this garden design project in Greenfield, Oldham, the clients wanted a sophisticated and functional outdoor space that felt like a natural extension of their home.

 

Alongside the overall redesign, they requested a new wood store and a replacement for the trellis fence and gate separating the front and rear garden areas, elements that needed to be practical while enhancing the garden’s aesthetic.

A key element of the brief was to create a usable social area adjacent to their newly installed contemporary glass extension to seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor living.

The Design

To meet these needs, we focused on bringing structure, style and intimacy to the space immediately surrounding the house.

 

We designed a welcoming social area framed by natural stone raised beds with York stone copings, filled with scented planting to create a calm atmosphere. This arrangement provides both privacy and character while complementing the sleek lines of the glass extension.

The transition between the front and back gardens was elevated through the creation of a bespoke gate and handrail, crafted by a renowned sculptor and artisan blacksmith we have collaborated with many times before. These handmade pieces introduce an artistic focal point and give the garden a unique identity and sense of craftsmanship.

The Garden

The finished garden is elegant, functional and deeply connected to the home. The scented raised beds create a peaceful social space, while the handcrafted metalwork adds artistic flair and longevity. Practical features like the new wood store and upgraded boundary elements blend seamlessly with the overall design, making the garden both beautiful and highly usable.
