ALDERLEY
EDGE
The Brief
Set within a 1.7-acre private property in Alderley Edge, Cheshire East, the client sought a cohesive yet diverse landscape that offered multiple distinct garden experiences. The brief called for a design that was visually refined, deeply connected to nature, and aligned with sustainable principles.
Every aspect of this project needed to reflect environmental responsibility while creating a garden that could evolve beautifully over time.
The Design
The resulting design is a collection of characterful outdoor spaces, each thoughtfully shaped to offer its own atmosphere and purpose while remaining connected to a unified whole.
Key elements included:
-
A minimalist Japanese-inspired rear garden designed for calm, contemplation and simplicity.
-
A tranquil courtyard garden that provides a sheltered retreat.
-
A rustic stumpery rich with texture and biodiversity.
-
A vibrant wildflower meadow, enhancing ecological value and seasonal interest.
-
An orchard garden that blending productivity with natural beauty.
-
Meticulously crafted driveway and entranceway areas that offer a graceful arrival experience.
The roof garden features an automated pergola with sofas and a dining table, a kitchen run with an integrated fridge and barbecue units, a Corten pizza and bread oven, and a standing bar to create the perfect setting for family gatherings and entertaining, all set against a stunning backdrop of rolling countryside and fields.
Sustainability underscored every decision we made. Material selection focused on longevity and environmental sensitivity, while reclaimed elements and location-specific design approaches were used to reduce impact and enhance ecological performance across the site.
The Garden
The final design balances elegance, diversity, and ecological integrity to offer the client a series of immersive outdoor environments that unfold seamlessly across the property.
The project’s commitment to craftsmanship, sustainability and thoughtful design was recognised on an international stage.
In 2025, the garden was awarded a Silver Award in the Residential #3 (Over $100,000) category at the APLD International Landscape Design Awards, affirming its excellence in modern an responsible landscape design.
